PayPal forced to report total payment volume to IRS

On August 5th PayPal announced that under new Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, it will be forced to report to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) a series of data concerning the total payment volume received by some of its US customers. The new legislation takes effect in 2011 and targets all American payments providers and their merchant customers.

Largest-ever US retail credit / debit card hacking scheme charged

Details of the largest US hacking and identity theft ever are now emerging, as the Department of Justice has made public the charges returned for the eleven members of the international group behind a massive retail credit / debit card hacking scheme. The hackers, three of which are American, one Estonian, three from Ukraine, two from China and one from Belarus, are believed to be responsible for the theft and sale of over 40 million credit and debit card numbers from such retailers as Barnes & Noble, OfficeMax, Forever 21, Boston Market and Sports Authority.

Norwegian bank DnB implements fraud detection system from Entrust

Norwegian financial institution DnB is to implement the zero-touch fraud detection system Entrust Risk-based Authentication Solution from US digital security services provider Entrust.  The system provides fraud detection and historical analysis capabilities, coupled with critical data from the Entrust Open Fraud Intelligence Network (OFIN).

Smart card technology provider NET 1 announced the implementation of its smart card technology and electronic transaction platform UEPS (Universal Electronic Payment Solution) in Iraq.
