We have been studying Nutrition and planning for our big Gardening Event so the Parma Learning Center students planned a Community Health Fair. All classes had health related booths: 1st grade made playdough for all to have out of "Earthly" ingredients, 2nd grade had a survey of their self created nutritious snacks, 3-4 grade taught nutrious snacks and had various snacks for the community to sample as well as drinks to try, 5-8th grade had a fruit tasting event where everyone tried 7 very strange fruits and had to rate them on 5 areas. Community programs, agencies, school lunch program, and medical centers also had booths. There were games and events for all ages. The youth did an excellent job in planning, food preparation, program organization and civic responsibilities. many parents, city officials, fellow students and teachers were present ot support the hard work of these incredible students.

We celebrated our Lights on Afterschool event yesterday evening on our Town Square. However, due to the weather, halfway through our event we moved to City Hall in the City Council Chambers. To kickoff our event, we had several speakers including Afterschool progam directors from Teen REACH and Y-Zone, our City's Director of Public Works/Chair of our County Board, our Finance Commissioner, afterschool program youth and parents. The Chief of Police and Sheriff's Deputy also attended along with many parents, business leaders and members of the community. They youth did an excellent job speaking, we we're very proud of them. After speeches, kids and adults enjoyed food, games, prizes, and coloring activities. Many youth colored Light Bulbs, which we will send to our legislators. This was the best Lights on Afterschool event we have had, and we hope to only improve next year. We would like to extend many thanks to our City Officials for supporting the event and all our efforts in afterschool programming.

We had our event yesterday and it was wonderful! We had over 160 attend our dinner!. As they walked in, a giant lightbulb Shape was on the floor in bright yellow contact paper, proclaiming " Our Lights are on for YOU!"All the "light bulbs" were decorated and the children wrote in the things they liked most about afterschool. Families ate pasta and meatballs and yummy lemon chicken with salad and homemade desserts made by the middle school and kid's club programs. The tablecloths were decorated by the kids with handprints and lighbulbs filled with positive thoughts and fun pictures. Some of our teachers and the school principals came. So did the Superintendant of schools and some members of the school committee. We had the chair of the local Board of Selectman and our Police Chief attended with his wife. All the rest were families and staff and we had a great time. Midway through the evening, some of the kids and the parents moved over to the gym and engaged in a fierce game of dodgeball. The carved pumpkin centerpieces that adorned the tables were given away at the end of the night as door prizes. All the kids got cool pencils with zany erasers. There was wonderful evidence of the amazing things the kids do and make while in the afterschool program (and before school too). The director visited every single table and spoke to the guests about the importance of advocating for accessible and affordable care for everyone and they all finally understood the meaning of "light On" We want to start planning for next year!

Our Extended Day kid's had a great time being involved with our Lights On After School event. They decorated their "Light Bulbs" and wore them. They sang Karaoke and were featured on the "BIG SCREEN" while they sang. We even had few of our Group Leaders sing. And ever time a parent came to pick up their child, the child will take the parent to refreshment table and serve them a doughnut and juice, and one for them, of course! The parent's would walk in really not knowing what was going on, but the walked out knowing how important it is to keep the "Lights On Aftershool."
