  • The Morrisville 21st CCLC high school service learning students will be hosting there 3rd lights on event. This year they will be visiting the Grandview elementary students and start out by singing "This little light of mine" A few of our Sophomore's will then speak to the students and parents about the importance of afterschool programming. Bucks Co. Technical High School made our cookies in the shape of light bulbs to share as a snack. We have different stations and events planned for the kids to all interact with one another, including an art station to decorate our bulbs. The media has been invited along with School Superintendants and local Govt. Let's hope the weather holds out for our outside activities, so we don't have to use plan "B"

  • Forest Hill Elementary in West Palm Beach shared the magic of afterschool with its parents and students by having a magician come and do a show for our families. Everyone was delighted by Jamie Porter and his silly brand of magic. We kept the lights down low, but the children's faces lit up when they saw they would get to wear glow in the dark necklaces during the performance. Our children were willing volunteers and a wonderful time was had by all! The students decorated the cafeteria with the Lights On Afterschool light bulbs and we had pictures displayed of the other events and activities we've done in the afterschool program so far this year. It was wonderful to see so many happy faces, both children AND adult and to have a joyful time to be together AFTER school.

  • Pierce Hammock Elementary School celebrated Lights on Afterschool by having the children decorate their own light bulb with things they enjoy in the program. We also decorated two banners that are on display at the School District of Palm Beach County. They had such a blast being so creative with something so important. They also decided what their activity would be for the day, choosing from cooking, arts & crafts, games, etc. They kids always enjoy themselves but definately had a blast today! :-)

  • We have been working on LOA for about a month---We have done the bulb art and posted it on every available window, wall and bulletin board. We have had tryouts and practices for our LIGHTS ON OUR TALENT show which is this afternoon. The kids are so ready! We will be taking time to speak to parents. Today begins a week long celebration of our Afterschool program which is 20years old!! We have an international potluck, a pizza party, a birthday party with University officials coming and hopefully the mayor will be stopping by or I will have to read the proclamation of Evergreen AFterschool day in Carbondale!!

  • We are celebrating Lights On Afterschool with a dinner to "break bread" with our families, teachers, school administrators and interested friends. Most of our "speeches" will be written and available for those who want them. But the primary purpose of the evening is to be thankful for all the wonderful programs that this community offers--like Before and after school childcare through grade 8, community enrichment programs, afterschool sports, and our soon to be open again, youth center. Our police chief will be attending, as well as the Superintendant of Schools, and members of the school committee. Our community supports afterschool programs and this event allows us to all get together and appreciate what we have and to make a commitment to ensure the continuation of these services.
