  • Kate, that is a great idea. Another and even possibly less expensive way to enjoy those "different tastes" from different restaurants is to get their "to go" menu and when making your shopping list....shop for some of the cool meals put together on them. Then make them at home with a recipe you might find on the internet...it's entertaining as well as helping you learn how to cook different things....and if you don't have the money to "go out" you still get the food at home. p.s. try and make it look cool...just like they do at the restaurant...garnish, placed nicely on the plate...etc.

  • Hi I love this! My husband and I are located between two small towns. We can no longer afford to eat out a lot, currently I am unemployed, so we have made a calendar of the restaurants in our area that offer different specials during the week to attract business. So we note whats on the menu on a certain day and we head out for a delicious meal at a lower price, get to try new foods, its pretty amazing how our palettes have changed and grown. My husband was a strictly meat and potatoes guy and the other evening he ate quiche!

  • Hey, let's get a discussion going about the things we do to save money. Each one of us has some GREAT ideas and each one of us could benefit from the other. That's what we're here for, right? The two biggest things I do to "save money" are to: 1. Stop going out to eat. We've resurrected an old tradition of doing "candle dinners" in our own dining room. Everyone must "dress" for dinner, we serve the drinks in nice wine glasses and the meal is served on plates, not from the pan, just like they do at fancy establishments. 2. Add $80 a month to my mortgage payment and pay it bi-weekly (every two weeks). This doesn't "save money" immediately, but I will pay off my mortgage in less than 20 years and "save" myself $130,000 in interest. WOW!!! Now, that's a savings.
