  • The thought of ever having to eat Ramen ever again in my life after college, made me gag! No I was not one of those lucky little girls who had parents paying for college, I was a single mom at 19/went to college at 26/You do the Math! I though being a single parent made you poor- try being a single working mother trying to educate yourself for the greater good! Me and the son child ate a whole LOTTA the chicken flavor with salsa in it (veggies) about 2-3 xs a week for almost 4 months... To this day~ and trust me - it has been some days~ I will not eat RAMEN!Wildly tho~ my 16 yo son child LOVES the stuff! Kids are crazy!

  • I am afraid that my drink of choice for about everything is tap water. I have nothing against booze, per se, but I just do not make it part of my everyday life. Before the pressure of the economy hit I decided that I needed to get cooking and stop with all of the eating out (and in). I went cold turkey and said "From here on out I am cooking for my family". The first two weeks were very difficult but things got easier as I went along. About a month after this epiphany my husband lost his job (October) and things have been tight ever since. Most of the blogs and sites that I had been working with before the job loss seemed to focus on one or of two things; spending more for convenience foods to get you into the kitchen or using frugal techniques that were unbelievably time consuming. What I have been working on is balancing the two to create a frugal approach to getting dinner on the table quickly.

  • If this is a blog for people who want to eat good food at home and skip the restaurant, then I am guessing these are people who know a bit about meatloaf and ramen noodles and are looking for MORE. I have been a professional cook for over ten years. No, not a chef, a cook, which as you will often find, is the person who is preparing the dinner you enjoyed out, oh so much. That being said, you can make a pretty mean meatloaf, and yes, ramen noodles too, make a change now! If more people supported the local growers, the local wares, local manufacturers of food goods, we could rebuild our economy from the inside, out. We do not need to wait for relief, you can make a difference in your own city and state. And, by doing so, you will also be keeping your neighbors in business. Cook with a conscious! It is cheaper and has more value. Skip ramen, check out the pasta made by your local specialty grocer ($2 a lb. by my house) or make some homemade spaetzle-easy and under $2 for a family of four
