You're broke. You're at home, cooking because, well, you're broke. Meatloaf is one of the most budget-friendly meals available, and is easy to cook. But, like I said, you're broke. Therefore, it must be time to open a bottle of wine. Casa De La Vega Merlot-Tempranillo Crianza (2003) is a beautiful merlot that is not only full-bodied and yummers, but is also really cheap. The merlot goes for about $9. (Yes. $9! And no, I will not deprive you of the link: http://www.samswine.com/Casa%20De%20La%20Vega%20Merlot-Tempranillo%20Crianza%202003/10044281,default,pd.html) A great beverage can fancy up any cheapo meal. Even ramen. Yes. Ramen. I am the Queen of Ramen. I recently poured myself some leftover champagne and raspberry ginger ale - it was perfect. The acidity of the champagne and the fruit flavor and sweetness of the ginger ale balanced out the salty ramen perfectly. Any dry champagne will do - serve very chilled! Drop in a berry or a piece of fruit for extra happiness in a flute.

So we're supposed to write the best wine pairing for meatloaf or ramen. Wine is not actually my drink of choice. I'm a vodka gal myself. Sometime in my twenties I was told it was less likely to give me a hangover. So there you go. The great thing about vodka, is that you can add it to almost any beverage to make it alcoholic. One of my very favorite drinks is a cucumber lemonade at a local restaurant (Relish in Roswell, so delish). One night I had the idea to add vodka and WOW. So if you're having ramen for dinner, consider vodka. Wait! I'm not suggesting adding vodka to the ramen! (Although this might be a worthy experiment one night...perhaps the subject of another blog one day) Add vodka to your favorite beverage and make a night of it. Some of my favorite non-traditional vodka drinks: Raspberry Ginger Ale & Vodka (also looks pretty with those pink bubbles) Cucumber Lemonade & Vodka (Add cucumber to lemonade in your blender, or go to Relish in Roswell!)

I'm here to announce that I am a recovering Restaurant Addict. I work in non-profit (known for being broke, even worse in a recession), really really really love to eat (must. eat.), live in New York (really can't afford to breathe, let alone eat out, but we have the best of everything so... I continue to spend money I don't have), and am single (so I HAVE to go out, right?). Consider letmefeedyou to be a rehab for the Restaurant Addicted. I will try (and possibly fail a few times), to cook well, eat in, and save my pennies for next year's fabulous restaurant openings. A girl can dream, can't she?

Trader Joe's has quite the selection of great tasting, yet inexpensive wines. If your budget is very limited, a bottle of Charles Shaw (affectionately called "Two Buck Chuck") works rather nicely. Pick something rich and full-bodied to compliment the meatloaf, like a Cabernet or a Zinfandel. At $1.99 - $3.49 per bottle, depending on the region, you can't argue with the price. If you have a little more to spare on a bottle of wine, say around $5.99 a bottle, Yellow Tail is a great choice. My personal favorite for meatloaf is the Shiraz-Cabernet, as the sweetness balances out the dryness of the Cabernet for a lovely medium bodied fruity flavor. When pairing a wine with ramen, Charles Shaw makes a light and simple Sauvignon Blanc that will add to even the most basic fare. I would personally spend the extra dollars to pair my ramen with a Yellow Tail Riesling. The fruity body will accent the salt in the ramen and provide a refreshing finish with the aftertaste of orange blossoms.

Greetings fellow food lovers! I'm excited to become a new member. I like Bogle Merlot with Meatloaf. I tend to dress up my ramen with mushrooms, green onions and anything else that strikes my fancy. I would have to say the best beverage would probably be jasmine tea or ice water with a slice of lemon. I posted a lengthier post entitled "Caviar Cravings on a Pauper's Penny" under the food section...hope you will check it out for further ideas.
