What merlot’s a perfect pairing with meatloaf? What bev best brings out the fine flavors of ramen noodles?

Red wine is perfect with an econo friendly dish such as meatloaf. My equally econo friendly wine choice would be Vina Borgia's Campo de Borja. This silky luscious treat is from Spain and is mostly Grenache. I have picked it up at local grocery stores in Atlanta for around $8 per bottle. Ramen noodles? Round up the riesling! I recently tried a light choice with racy acidity from Australia. The name escapes me, but many Australian rielsings can be found for around $12 per bottle with screw off caps. BTW, don't let the screw off caps scare you away. Many producers are using them to save money on bottling costs. Not all wines with screw off caps are the same, but many of them come from innovative producers and are worth looking into. Cheers!

Meatloaf made with beef tastes great with a robust red wine: a burgundy or a chianti will taste good with it, syrah could also work well. For turkey meatloaf go with a lighter wine - a light zin, a blush (or rose) - even a fruity columbard would be lovely. Or feature the meatloaf as a recession meal and go for mac 'n cheez aide and a (very recent) box o'wine.

Hey everyone! Reading your posts has made me soooo hungry! LOL... but I wouldn't be here if I didn't love a great meal. I am a mom of two growing boys and wife to a fellow foodie (he gives directions to our house using restaurants as landmarks!). 2008 was our year of "going healthy" and 2009 is going to be the year we make that healthy food taste good! Contrary to popular opinion, this CAN be done on a budget and I'm up for the challenge of showing you how.

White merlot would go well with meatloaf. Gives you the benefit of the antioxidants with a slightly sweet taste. Use a ketchup that has a slightly tart taste, maybe one that has red wine vinegar in the recipe to offset the sweetness of the wine?

Hey, y'all. Wine with meatloaf? That's beer food (like ramen), but I guess a 1972 Blue Nun would work with either. In a recession? Gallo. Jug. Red or white? White: if you want to be a snob about red wine with red meat and such, get some red food coloring and add a drop or two to each glass of the white wine when you serve the meatloaf; that's a heckuva lot cheaper than buying a jug of red and a jug of white.
